While currently a research prototype without commercial API or product release, VASA-1 sets a new standard for real-time, lifelike avatar animation with controllable gaze, emotion, and head distance parameters. Microsoft emphasizes responsible AI use and opposes misuse for impersonation, highlighting ongoing work to improve video authenticity and detection of generated content.
