Flux

Flux

Flux is a browser-based ECAD platform for designing printed circuit boards from idea through manufacturing. You describe what you want to build, and Flux Copilot plans the work, generates schematics and layouts, and checks in before key steps so you stay in control. It targets hardware engineers, startups, and product teams who want full PCB design without desktop installs.

The platform combines a collaborative schematic and layout editor with live component data, supply chain awareness, and explainable automation. Flux handles planning, part research, BoM generation, placement and routing, and design reviews inside one workspace connected to real inventory and pricing.

Flux supports multi-layer PCBs up to eight layers for IoT devices, wearables, robotics, and other production-bound hardware. You can import from Altium, Cadence, KiCad, Eagle, and EasyEDA, then export Gerbers, drill files, BoMs, pick-and-place files, and standard netlists for fabrication.

Top Features:
  1. Describe a board in plain language and Copilot maps a plan for approval

  2. Generates schematics, BoMs, and layouts with placement and routing

  3. Runs design reviews for unconnected pins, missing caps, and tolerance issues

  4. Multi-layer PCBs up to eight layers, from prototype to production

  5. Imports Altium, Cadence, KiCad, Eagle, and EasyEDA projects

  6. Exports Gerbers, drill files, BoM, pick-and-place, and netlists

  7. Real-time collaboration with version control in the browser

Pros:
  1. Full ECAD workflow in the browser with no desktop install required.

  2. Copilot automates planning, schematic work, layout, and design reviews with human checkpoints.

  3. Live component inventory and pricing keep BoMs sourcing-ready.

  4. Imports from major ECAD tools and exports manufacturing-ready fab files.

  5. 14-day premium trial before committing to a paid plan.

Cons:
  1. Layout import from Altium, Cadence, or KiCad is not supported yet.

  2. Copilot usage is metered through ACUs that can run out on busy months.

  3. Teams and Pro plans charge per editor, which adds up for large hardware groups.

FAQs:

Does Flux have a free trial?

Yes. Flux offers a free two-week trial of premium features when you sign up. After the trial, you keep access to public projects on a free account, but editing private projects, exports, and Copilot require a paid plan.

How much does Flux cost?

Flux Starter is $20 per month, Pro is $142 per month per editor, and Teams is $158 per month per editor. Annual billing lowers Starter to $16, Pro to $112, and Teams to $120 per month per editor. Enterprise pricing is custom through sales.

What are ACUs in Flux?

ACUs (Agent Compute Units) meter Copilot usage in Flux, including chat and automated workflows. Each paid plan includes monthly ACUs that replenish each billing cycle, with overage charged per additional ACU.

Can I import projects from Altium or KiCad into Flux?

Yes. Flux imports schematics from Altium (ASCII) and Cadence (EDIF), plus KiCad part libraries. Eagle, Upverter, and EasyEDA migrations are documented. Full layout import from other ECAD tools is not supported yet.

Can Flux export files for PCB manufacturing?

Yes. Flux exports Gerbers, drill files, BoM, pick-and-place, and standard netlists for fabrication and downstream tools, as documented in its manufacturing export guide.

Does Flux train on my design data?

No. Flux states it does not use business or enterprise customer data to train its models. Enterprise plans add SOC 2 compliance, encryption at rest and in transit, and administrative access controls.

What kinds of boards can I design in Flux?

Flux supports professional multi-layer PCBs up to eight layers for IoT devices, wearables, robotics, and similar production hardware. Featured project templates cover power delivery, RF telemetry, embedded AI, and industrial automation.
